Astrid Kruse, a prominent local artist does amazing pottery. Some of it is functional (i.e. you can use it to eat off of, or cook with), and other pieces are art and decorations. We went over to her place last Sunday to watch the process of firing (before heading out to Cameron Falls). It is quite lengthy (the kiln has to be heated up to 1750 degress Centigrade), and there are many processes involved...

Astrid let us try some pieces that she did. This is a mold of a fireweed flower that she created and I glazed it. The glaze doesn't look like much until it is fired...

When the pieces are taken out they are put into a container for 20 minutes, then into a water bath...

This is the finished product. Quite lovely, no? I will definitely be taking a course with her next time she is having one!
